Abstract

ADVANCES IN POLYMER BLENDS FOR PHARMACEUTICAL APPLICATIONS: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

Shehbas Ahammed*, Reshmi Krishna A. and Shajna Shajahan

ABSTRACT

Polymers are vital constituents of numerous biomedical products and medication delivery systems. Despite the utility of many existing polymers, there remains a demand for materials with improved properties and functionality. The introduction and application of novel polymers are severely restricted since new excipient approval requires substantial safety testing. An effective way to overcome the shortcomings of individual polymers is to combine presently authorized polymers. Polymer blends, which combine two or more polymers, can provide considerable advantages in drug delivery applications by producing enhanced, augmented, or tailored characteristics and functionality. The utilization of polymer blends is a useful and underutilized resource in addressing a wide range of medication delivery difficulties. Application of polymer blends in pharmaceutical products are expected to rise as a result of new hurdles in drug molecule development, such as the need for enabling excipients and better bioavailability.
