ABSTRACT

This review journal resolves the synthesis and antimicrobial properties such as antibacterial and antifungal properties of Schiff base derivatives of sulphonamide moieties by methods like Insilco designing. Sulphonamides and Schiff bases individually possess better antimicrobial property. Combining them together can produce compounds having high antimicrobial activity when compared to the individual ones. Considering the growing interest in the field of antimicrobial studies, we have tried to review the therapeutic potential and biological activities of Schiff base derivatives of sulfonamide moieties for their antimicrobial activity. These compounds have been identified as anti- infective agents such as antibacterial, antifungal, antiplasmodial, anticancer, anticonvulsant and antiviral agents. Availability of drugs containing sulfonamide derivatives of Schiff base
are less when compared to the drugs having individual components.

Keywords: Sulfonamides, Schiff bases, Antibacterial and Antifungal.
