ABSTRACT
Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity and phytochemical screening of medicinal plant Acalypha indica. Materials and Method: antioxidant properties of the extracts were assessed using hydrogen peroxide radical scavenging assay for ascorbic acid equivalents. Moreover, the phytochemical analysis of plant extract was determined by using standard methods. Results: The results of phytochemical analysis confirmed the alkaloids, phenols, carbohydrates, total fats, steroids; flavonoids were present in plant extract. Moreover, flavonoids present in extract confirm the antioxidant activity. The plant extract has strong hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity compared with standard ascorbic acid. Conclusion: The results obtained in this study clearly confirmed that ethanolic extract of Acalypha indica have strong antioxidant and free radical scavenging property. This property of plant extract due to presence of bioactive compounds.
Keywords: Acalypha indica, antioxidant, free radicals, hydrogen peroxide, ROS.
