ABSTRACT
Aims: To explore how stress affects students' academic outcomes. The primary goals were to identify the types of stress that influence students’ performance, assess the impacts of stress on academic achievements, and compare the effects of stress on male and female students. Methodology: The study focused on all secondary schools in the schools of north India. The total sample consisted of 600 students, with 20 secondary schools from each district being selected. The schools were divided into two groups: 5 male and 5 female schools. 60 students from each school were chosen using a simple random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a five-point Likert scale, with 99% of respondents acknowledging the impact of stress on their academic performance. The data were analyzed usingthe Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20, and the reliability of the questionnaire was confirmed with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.850. Various tests, including factor analysis and regression, revealed that stress significantly affects students' academic performance. The study concluded that teachers and parents are major sources of stress and that stress impacts male and female students similarly.
