COSMETOLOGY IN AYURVEDA AND THE EMERGENCE OF COSMECEUTICALS

ABSTRACT

Skin is the largest organ in the body. The good visual appearance of the skin will increase one’s confidence and quality of life. To keep the glowing skin people are using so many chemical cosmetics which can cause the harmful effects. In this situation the traditional remedies explained in Ᾱyurveda system of medicine is gaining its importance. Ᾱyurveda suggests so many therapies and herbs to keep the skin beautiful like śodhana therapies, dinacharya, ritucharya, rasāyana, āhāra vihāra, yoga, prānāyāma, varṇyagana, kuṣṭagna gana, keśya gana etc. Ᾱyurveda always keep an eye not only to treat the diseases but also to preserve the health The emergence cosmeceuticals will make a revolution in the cosmetic field. The herbal drugs incorporated with cosmetic bases can act as both medicine and cosmetics. This paper reviews the glimpses of cosmetology mentioned in Ᾱyurveda and how the emergence of cosmeceuticals helps Ᾱyurveda to get popularised.
