ABSTRACT
In siddha system of medicine the diseases are classified into 4448 based on the vitiated humors (vali, azhal. iyyam). The saints classified diffirent types of neuromuscular skeletal diseases under 80 types of vatha noigal in the text Yugi vaidhya chinthamani. Uthira vatha suronitham is one among the 80 vatha diseases. It can be compared in modern medicine to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is estimated to affect approximately 0.24 to 1 % of the population and to be twice as common in women compared with men. Rheumatoid arthritis is a long term autoimmune disorder that primarily affect joints. Viswathiya Choornam is a herbomineral formulation indicated for vatha diseases in the book Anubhoga vaidhya deva ragasiyam. The drug is a herbomineral formulation of 13 ingredients. The objective of the study is to identify the compounds present in this formulationViswathiya choornam. The biochemical analysis of Viswathiya Choornam reveals the presence of Calcium, Sulfate, Chloride and Tannic Acid. These compounds enhance the property of the drug.
Keywords: Herbomineral, Viswathiya Choornam, Autoimmune.
