ABSTRACT

The present study investigates the pharmacodynamic interaction of guduchi with diclofenac sodium on anti-inflammatory activity by using albino wistar rats. Previous studies showed both guduchi and diclofenac have anti-inflammatory activity and present study was carried out to see the synergistic or antagonistic effect of combination drug (Guduchi + Diclofenac). The anti-inflammatory activity was done using Carrageenan induced paw oedema and cotton pellet induced granuloma. Animals are divided into 5 groups and 6 animals in each, group -1 receives vehicle alone, group-2 is induced, group - 3,4 receives individual drugs and group -5 receives combination drug. The result showed that combination drug (Guduchi 50mg/kg + Diclofenac sodium 10mg/kg body weight) exhibited statistically significant (p<0.001) inhibition of paw volume. The combination drug treated group showed maximum % inhibition of transductive weight i.e 60.64% compare to individual drug treated groups. From results it
concludes that, there is a synergetic effect between the combination drug (Guduchi + Diclofenac).

Keywords: Anti-inflammatory, cotton pellet, carrageenan, guduchi, diclofenac sodium.
