A REVIEW ARTICLE ON PATHOGENESIS OF ASHMARI W.R.T SHADKRIYAALA

ABSTRACT
Ashmari is mentioned in the ayurvedic texts as one of the Ashtamahagada, the most difficult to cure diseases. It may be due to its potential to derange the Mootravaha shrotasa. Ashmari described by Acharya Sushruta, seems to be referring to a calculus lodged in ureters, urinary bladder or in the urethra. In todays’ world, it has become a very common ailment, frequently found in people, usually affecting some member of a family. The size, location and number of stones help in deciding the mode of treatment. It can vary from simply increased fluid intake to surgery. Choice of treatment is very essential as kidneys are vital organs and are not supposed to be experimented with. Ayurved has a unique angle to view this problem. Kriyakala identifies the stage of an ailment and determines the best course of action to balance Doshas. It is a composite term composed of the words Kriya and Kala, where Kriya indicates the therapy used to address the disruption of Dosha and Kala indicates the stage at which a disease is progressing. Therefore, in order to achieve the purpose of Ayurveda, which is to identify the phases of a disease's development and select the most effective treatment to correct the Dosha imbalance. Kriyakala is essential for early diagnosis, prognosis, and the implementation of suitable preventive and curative actions to halt the progression of an illness and its associated problems. This article aims at categorising the development of urinary tract stones in view of Shadriyakaala.
