Abstract

ADVANCED STRATEGIES IN OCULAR DRUG DELIVERY: UNVEILING THE POTENTIAL OF POLYAMIDOAMINE (PAMAM) DENDRIMERS

Akhil Sharma*, Zeenat Parveen, Arshiya Sharma, Aniket Kumar, Amandeep and Kajal Sharma

ABSTRACT

The obstacles in the eye that prevent drugs from being delivered effectively make treating ocular illnesses difficult. Traditional techniques, such as ointments and drops for the eyes, frequently lead to quick clearance and inadequate bioavailability. A possible substitute are synthetic macromolecules called polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers, which have a highly branching structure. This review explores the possibility of using PAMAM dendrimers to deliver medications to the eyes, emphasizing their superior tissue penetration, regulated release, and high surface functionality. It talks about cutting-edge methods to get beyond obstacles in the eyes, such as theranostic applications that combine medical and diagnostic capabilities. The paper also discusses difficulties and safety issues, and it looks ahead to potential advancements, including biodegradable and responsive dendrimers, better targeting, and integration with other nanotechnologies. This study emphasizes the potential of PAMAM dendrimers to transform ocular therapies and enhance patient outcomes by offering a thorough investigation.

Keywords: Ocular delivery, PAMAM dendrimers, bioavailability, controlled release, theranostics, tissue penetration, nanotech, biodegradable, targeting.
