Abstract

A REVIEW ON TRADITIONAL USES OF AEGLE MARMELOS

ABSTRACT

Existing generation is a fast generation of allopathic drug, they supply fast consequence. This review is based on Aegle marmelos. Aegle marmelos is an primary aromatic medicinal tree of Indian root. From all only tree is aromatic, and remaining all the parts are medicinally essential Fruits, leaves, bark, roots, and seeds are used in ayurvedic to treat several ailments. Studies show that the extract of Aegle Marmelos root has anti diarrhoeal activity. The chloroform extract of Roots was studied by Agar dilution & Disc diffusion method. The Antipyretic effect of aqueous & ethanolic extract of Aegle marmelos was studied in Wistar albino rats (150±20 g). The methanolic Aegle marmelos extract has show antiulcer activity in Wistar albino rats. Aegle marmelos extracts on dermatophytic fungi was studied.The anticonvulsant property of ethanolic extract of Aegle Marmelos leaves was studied in mice. The Anticancer activity of Aegle marmelos was studied by induction of breast cancer by using dimethylbenz(a)
anthracene(DMBA)cancer in rats. Anti thyroid activity of extract Aegle marmelos leaves was studied by Administration of L-thyroxine (0.5mg/kg) & propylthiouracil for 30 days to produce hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism respectively. Aegle marmelos toxicity was studied in rat by using Alcoholic, Methanolic and Aqueous extract. The review aims to know about various phytochemical parameters, traditional uses and applications of Bael fruit.
