ABSTRACT
Millions of people worldwide suffer with diabetes mellitus, a serious chronic illness. Controlling blood sugar levels with food, exercise, and medication is part of managing diabetes. In treating diabetes, this study compares the safety and effectiveness of ayurvedic herbal formulations with allopathic (standard western) medications. The mechanisms of action, therapeutic benefits, and possible side effects of allopathic oral hypoglycemic medications such as insulin, sulfonylureas, and metformin are discussed. On the other hand, popular Ayurvedic antidiabetic herbs and formulations including neem, gymnema, fenugreek, and bitter melon are evaluated according to their scientific evidence from contemporary studies, as well as their traditional applications and phytochemical composition. Review data from large clinical trials and systematic reviews are analyzed to evaluate the treatment agents' capacity to decrease blood glucose, their long-termglycemic management, and their safety profiles... Results indicate that while allopathic medications lower blood sugar levels more quickly, when used in addition, some ayurveda treatments may offer adequate glycemic control with fewer adverse effects. The advantages and disadvantages of each medical system are examined in relation to the holistic, integrated management of diabetes.
