Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF POLYHERBAL ANTIMICROBIAL CREAM

ABSTRACT

Creams are semisolid preparations which contain one or more ingredients, dissolved or dispersed in the other. The aim of the study was to formulate and evaluate a poly-herbal antimicrobial cream using extracts prepared from Neem leaves, Green tea leaves and Indian borage leaves. These herbs were selected based on its high antibacterial activity, affordability and availability. The extract of herbs were prepared by maceration using ethanol as solvent. Phytochemical test were carried out to establish the presence of active constituents responsible for its antibacterial action. Several evaluation test were conducted to know about the performance of creams. The anti-bacterial activity against S. aureus was carried out by well diffusion method. Thus the prepared creams was found to be effective against the selected bacteria. The relevance of the study was to
introduce a poly-herbal anti-microbial cream to the consumers to fight against various skin infections, which having more or less similar efficacy as compared to that of synthetic creams available in the market, as they are more safer to be used since they contain natural extract from plants, in comparison to synthetic creams.
