ABSTRACT
Manjal kaamalai is a disease which mainly affects the liver and causes a rise in serum bilirubin and other Liver Function Test. Most common cause of Manjal kaamalai in children are commonly due to hepatitis infections. In modern medical terminology jaundice is considered to be a sign and not a disease. In Siddha literature manjal kaamalai is described as a disease with yellowish discolourisation of scelera, tongue, yellow coloured urine with fever, vomiting, giddiness, abdominal pain, anasarca, watery discharge from nose (Balar vagadam). Siddha literatures and electrical data bases are the main source of this review. The aim of the review is to prove its efficacy in treating the disease Manjal Kaamalai (Jaundice). The chemical constituents, action and uses taken from various electrical journals and siddha literatures helps in finding the evidenced based polyherbal formulation Athimadhura Chooraanam in curing Jaundice.
