REVIEW ON BEETROOT NATURAL LIP BALM

ABSTRACT
Demand for natural products has grown recently, notably in the cosmetic sector. One of the most popular cosmetic items, lip balm serves the dual purposes of coloring the lips and preventing dryness. Lip balm is wax like substance applied topically to the lips to moisturize and relieve chapped or dry lips, cold sores, moisturize, protecting from external exposure. The lip balm design, quality, formulation of lip balm made from natural ingredients was studied in this study, the primary purpose of lip balm is to provide occlusive layer on the lip surface to seal moisture in lips and protect them from external exposure, dry air, cold temperature and wind and drying effect on skin by drying moisture away from the body lips are particularly vulnerable because the skin is so thin, and thus they are often the first to present signs of dryness. Acharya Charaka described about Vataja lip disorders[1] and its signs and symptoms like Karkasha (rough), Ruksha (dry), Stabdha (Stiff), Tivrarugnavitam (Severe pain), Dalyate(Lips crack), Paripatyate (fissure), Shyavata (Dark lips).[1] And treatment told for these are treated with Abhyanga (massaging) with Chatursnehathose are Ghrita (Ghee), Taila (Oil), Vasa (Fat), Majja (Bone marrow)[2], Madhuchista (Bee wax) which are having Snighdagunas (Unctuousness). Here Lip balm has been made by using easily available and natural ingredients like Beetroot, Coconut oil, and Beeswax which are cost effective and easily prepared at home, better option for treatment of lip issues. Here attempt is made to prepare Beetroot natural lipbalm which has cosmetic purpose as well as medical use also.
