Abstract

A CROSS -SECTIONAL STUDY ON CONCEPT OF ASATMYA INDRIYARTH SANYOGA (ATIYOGA OF CHAKSHUINDRIYA) WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO INTERNET ADDICTION (I.A)

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda is the holistic approach to medical science to health and personalized medicine in which it has been mentioned that Asatmyaindriyarth Sanyoga is (improper contact of the senses with their objects resulting in overstimulation of sensory activity) as one of the most important causative factors for occurance of sharirika as well as Manasika Vyadhi. The Atiyoga (excessive use) of gynanendriyas especially Netra is very much prevalent among young adults. Doing excessive work in front of the computer, and prolonged use of mobile phones, and laptops are examples of Asatmyaindriyarth Sanyoga of Chakshu Indriya (Eyes). But till now, internet addiction as a mental disorder is not included in the current version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V in 2013).A cross-sectional study aiming at exploring the concept of Asatmyaindriyarth Sanyoga especially Atiyoga of Chakshu indriya (eyes) by studying the
Nidanas (etiological factors) and Lakshanas (symptoms) of Chakshu (eye) with special reference to internet addiction was studied. High prevalence of Internet addiction (82.86%) was found in the in the present study. According to screen time, most of the Participants reported 3-6 hour a day screen time. 63.42% of the respondents had Mild, 18.68% with Moderate, and 0.77% with Severe Internet addiction.
