Abstract

A REVIEW ON EVALUATION OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AND ANTIDIABETIC ACTIVITY OF LEAVES AND FRUITS OF THE BEAL PLANT (AEGLE MARMELOS)

ABSTRACT

Aegle marmelos is a medicinal plant used to treat many conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and oxidative stress. The plant's bael fruits and leaves possess medicinal properties that encompass treating diabetes, reducing inflammation, lowering fever, regulating cholesterol levels, decreasing blood sugar, modulating the immune system, inhibiting cell growth, promoting wound healing, preventing fertility, relieving pain, and acting as insecticides. This paper offers a brief overview of the medicinal characteristics displayed by the leaves, fruits, and leaf extracts of the Aegle marmelos plant. The leaves and fruits contain mostly alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins as their bioactive ingredients. Lupeol, a pentacyclic triterpenoid derived from the extract of leaves, has been shown to suppress inflammatory responses and display antidiabetic characteristics. The extracts derived from the leaves of Aegle marmelos are known for their diverse advantages, acting as anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and analgesic agents.
