A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON BHAISHAJYA RATNAVALI. W. S. R. TO CAKSHUSYA DRAVYA’S

ABSTRACT

Background: The study was conducted to review Chakshushya dravyas mentioned in prevention and cure of eye diseases mentioned in Bhaisajya Ratnavali. Materials and Methods: The areas of present review include Bhaisajya Ratnavali. The categorization is made on the basis of single drugs mentioned in compound formulations in the treatment aspect of eye diseases. All the Nomenclature and Pharmacological aspects like Pharmacodynamics related to drugs are reviewed from Bhavapraksha Nighantu. Results: The literary review of the drugs indicated to possess preventive and therapeutic action reveal more than 50 single herbal drugs. Conclusion: Bhaisajya Ratnavali, the compiled book of Ayurveda pharmacotherapeutics that is from Chakradutta, Rasendra Sara Sangraha, Charaka Samhita, etc gives list of references for compound and single formulations in aid to cure and prevent Akshi vikaras. More than 50 drugs were captured that
had excellent properties to rule out Akshi vikaras.
