ABSTRACT
The main aim of the study was to evaluate the antihyperlipidemic effect of ethanolic extract of Commiphora mukul and Aconitum heterophyllum against high fat diet induced hyperlipidemia in wistar rats and its efficacy was compared with standard lipid lowering drug (Atorvastatin) The animals were divided into nine groups of six animals in each group. Control group animal receive normal chow diet, hyperlipidemic group or toxic group was given high fat diet whereas, treatment group which EECM 200 mg/kg, EECM 400 mg/kg, EEAH 200 mg/kg, EEAH 400 mg/kg, and combination of EEAH+EECM 200mg/kg, EEAH+EECM 400 mg/kg doses of plant extract was also fed with high fat diet for about 14 days in order to induce hyperlipidemia and then oral dose of standard and extract was given. In hyperlipidemia there is an increase in the level of LDL, VLDL, TG,TC and decrease in serum conc. of HDL. On the other-hand in the treatment group animals the above abnormalities are prevented with the standard and extract administration. The microscopic histologic examination as showed hepatic steatosis, lipid droplet formation and congestion of blood sinusoids in toxic group where as in treatment group the effects are negligible. The treatment group which are given EECM and combination extract showed better effects than other toxic groups but are lesser than standard group. the study suggests that EECM and combination of EECM+EEAH can be used in treatment of obesity more study is needed to be done in order to find the mechanism of action and ADR on prolong usage of this extract.
