THE SIGNIFICANCE OF PATHYA-APATHYA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VISHA: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Agadtantra, a branch of Ashtanga Ayurveda deals with study of various kinds of poisons along with its treatment, hence is given utmost importance owing to its need for emergency management. In addition to the fundamentals of neutralizing poison, Ayurvedic classical texts also enumerate the Pathya Apathya along with Visha chikitsa in Vishaja (Poisonous) conditions. When used in Visha Vikaar, Pathya Apathya can bring back the dhatus to its normal state, counteract the effect of poison in residual form and does the prevention from any further complication. Knowingly or unknowingly most of the people are exposed to different toxins, stings and bites. So it‟s the need of hour to understand the significance of Pathya-Apathya in such conditions. This article highlights the relevance of Pathya-Apathya in management of Visha from Brihat trayee and other Ayurvedic texts.
