S. Rajkumar, Dr. C. Pandian*, Dr. A. Abdul Hasan Sathali
ABSTRACT
A new method in this field called film-forming gel may offer an alternative to the common dose forms applied to the skin, like creams, ointments, gels, or patches. When the liquid polymeric solution is applied to the skin, solvent evaporation creates an invisible, thin coating that is transparent. Film forming systems (FFS) are a straightforward, creative method with the benefits of self-drying, flexibility, non-stickiness, and a thin, translucent gel. One of the most cutting-edge and novel approaches to drug delivery is the transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS). It offers several advantages over traditional pharmaceutical dosage formulation, including the ability to prevent gastrointestinal disturbances, hepatic first pass metabolism, increase drug bioavailability, lower dosage frequency, and stabilize drug delivery profiles. The aim of this review was to search for alternatives to the conventional dosage forms in order to reduces skin irritation, inflammation, redness and improve skin adhesion properties, increases the drug release and improve patient compliance.
Keywords: film forming gel, transdermal drug delivery system, application, gelling agent, and evaluation parameter.
