ROLE OF TRADITIONAL MEDICINES FOR MANAGEMENT OF POISONOUS BITES IN DHARMAPURI DISTRICT

ABSTRACT
The WHO defines traditional medicine as the total sum of the knowledge skills and Practices that based on theories, beliefs, experienced indigenous to different Cultures for the maintenance of the health, prevention and diagnosis. The siddha Medicine is one of the most ancient medical system of India and it is followed Predominantly in Tamilnadu and Kerala. In siddha system both bite and sting are referred as KADI. The traditional medicine has its own role in treating poisonous Bites (Visha kadi). The Traditional healers in Dharmapuri district are treating Poisonous bites very well by using internal and external medicines. The medicines Are prepared from various naturalsubstance (Animal, Mineral and Herbs). They Inherited this knowledge from their past generation. Five traditional practitioners Were interviewed after giving proper explanation about the study. This study Ensures to reveal the knowledge of poisonous bites treatment and medicine of Traditional healers in Dharmapuri district, Tamilnadu, India.
