MEDICINAL USES OF THE ICONIC FRUIT OF ARTOCARPUS HETEROPHYLLUS LAM – AN OVERVIEW

ABSTRACT
Artocarpus heterophyllus (jack fruit) is among the world’s largest fruit. Artocarpus heterophyllus belongs to the family moraceae. It contains high carbohydrates, protein, minerals, vitamins and phyto chemicals. Both the fruits and the seeds can be consumed widely. Further more, leaves, latex and bark of the jack tree have all been widely utilized in traditional medicines. Different research team recorded the studies about jack fruit that contains anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, wound healing, and hypoglycaemic activity. The total weight of the jackfruit is mostly occupied by seeds and fruit. Jackfruit is also used as alternative source for starch. Pectinase enzyme was produced from Artocarpus Niger. In olden days jackfruit is utilized in the purpose of illness and various sickness. It also contains rich flavonoids, reducing sugar minerals.
