Abstract

PHARMACOGNOSY, PHYTOCHEMISTRY, NUTRITIONAL, AND PHARMACOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF MUSA PARAMJITIANA: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

ABSTRACT

Musa paramjitiana, a wild banana species  indigenous to the Himalayan region, has attracted growing scientific interest due to its potential pharmacological and nutritional significance. This comprehensive review synthesizes existing literature to provide insights into the pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, nutritional value, and pharmacological properties of Musa paramjitiana. Phytochemical analysis reveals a diverse array of bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and terpenoids, which contribute to its therapeutic potential. Furthermore, Musa paramjitiana exhibits significant nutritional value, being rich in carbohydrates, dietary fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making it a valuable dietary component with potential health benefits. Pharmacological investigations have highlighted various bioactivities of Musa paramjitiana, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, and hepatoprotective effects. These pharmacological properties underscore its potential applications in the prevention and treatment of various diseases. In conclusion, Musa paramjitiana emerges as a promising botanical resource with diverse pharmacological and nutritional potential. Its pharmacognostic features, phytochemical constituents, nutritional composition, and pharmacological activities highlight its importance in traditional medicine, nutrition, and pharmaceutical research. Future research directions may focus on elucidating the mechanisms of action of its bioactive compounds, conducting clinical trials to evaluate its efficacy and safety, exploring its potential as a functional food ingredient, and assessing its ecological sustainability for conservation efforts.
