Abstract

CLINICAL EFFICACY OF AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT IN UTERINE FIBROID -A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Uterine fibroids are also known as Uterine leiomyomas, these are benign smooth muscle tumors of the uterus. Due to fibrous consistency and are also called as fibroid. Most women with fibroids have no symptoms while others may have painful or heavy periods. Uterine fibroids don’t have any symptoms can be influenced by the location, size and number of fibroids. Typical complaints include pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea or abnormal uterine bleeding. Management of uterine fibroid through surgery is available to meet urgent need of the patient, but challenges remain to establish a satisfactory conservatory medical treatment till date. In Ayurveda, fibroids can be correlated with Granthi. In specific, it can be correlated with Mamsaja granthi. Treatment of Granthi can be done in both by Shodana and Samana line of treatment. A case of uterine fibroid was managed by Ayurvedic intervention. Ultrasonography (USG) of the lower abdomenwas the main investigative/diagnostic tool in this study. After 3 months patient presented with USG report as absence of uterine fibroid. Ayurvedic formulations Kanchanara Guggulu, pushyanuga churna, Ashokarishta and two cycles of Vaitarana vasti are found to be effective treatment modality in uterine fibroid.
