ABSTRACT
In recent era, Orodispersible drug delivery systems are extensively used to improve bioavailability. In the last thirty years, there has been significant interest in mouth dissolving tablets (MDTs) as a better option than traditional tablets and capsules because they improve patient compliance and have better solubility and stability profiles. ODTs are compact oral medications containing active ingredients that quickly break down, usually within mere seconds, when placed on the tongue. New ODT technologies cater to various pharmaceutical and patient needs, from improving life-cycle management to providing easier dosing for pediatric, elderly, and psychiatric patients with difficulty swallowing. These formulations achieve their therapeutic effects through a common process involving disintegration and then dissolution. Therefore, the breakdown plays a significant part in aiding drug effectiveness. Recently, there have been advancements in the development of newer agents known as superdisintegrants. The main goal of this article is to emphasize the different types of superdisintegrants (Both Natural and Synthetic) and their importance in tablet disintegration and drug release. These components are utilized in formulations to ensure safer and more effective drug delivery while also promoting patient compliance.
