ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study was to prepare bilayer tablets of Metformin hydrochloride and Voglibose using natural polymers (Guargum and Xanthumgum) in different ratios. Prepared Metformin hcl sustained release layer separately. This layer were evaluated for uniformity of weight, hardness, friability, drug content and dissolution studies. In-vitro release profiles of Metformin hydrochloride SR layer were determined using USP apparatus type II (Padel), 50rpm and bath temperature 37ºC. Tablets dissolution was carried out in 900 ml of media (6.8 phosphate buffer). Samples were withdrawn at predetermined time intervals up to 12 Hrs and analysed using UV detector at a wavelength of 238 nm. Formulation F5 gave better-controlled drug release in comparison to the other formulations. Prepared Voglibose immediate release layer separately. This layer were evaluated for uniformity of weight, hardness, friability, drug content and dissolution studies. In-vitro release profiles of Voglibose immediate release layer were determined using USP apparatus type II (Padel), 50rpm and bath temperature 37ºC. Tablets dissolution was carried out in 900 ml of media (0.1N Hcl, pH 1.2). Samples were withdrawn at predetermined time intervals up to 12 Hrs and analysed using UV detector at a wavelength of 272 nm. From immediate release tablets of Voglibose IR3 gave better release when compared to all formulations. Hence, it is finally concluded that, the bilayer tablet technology can be successfully applied for sustained release of Metformin Hcl and immediate release of Voglibose.
