Abstract

ASSOCIATION OF VITAMIN D LEVELS WITH INSULIN RESISTANCE (HOMA-IR). A CLINICAL STUDY IN A GROUP OF NON-DIABETIC ADULT WOMEN

Hala Hassan Deeb*

ABSTRACT

In vitro studies have shown that vitamin D may influence insulin secretion, apoptosis, and gene regulation. However, the outcomes have differed and there has been uncertainty regarding the effect of different vitamin D metabolites on insulin secretion. Another studies confirmed that vitamin D3 may be a potential factor in insulin resistance, but the relationship between vitamin D3 and insulin resistance have to be more assurance. The purpose of this study was to find correlation between different levels vitamin D and glycemia, Insulin resistance (HOMA IR) in healthy people. Our study include 100 non-diabetic women (age =40-50 years, body mass index: 22.7 ± 2.1 kg/m2) (normal menstrual cycle). Serum insulin, Fasting Glucose, 25(OH)D concentration were measured, and HOMA-IR was calculated (indexed). All measurements were taken before they received vitamin D3. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and curve fitting were conducted to explore therelationship between vitamin D3 level and insulin resistance. The results shown that: there was no relationship between vitamin D3 and insulin resistance in non-diabetic adult women (P ˃0.05).

Keywords: Vitamin D, fasting Glucose, Insulin, Insulin Resistance.
