CLINICAL EVALUATION OF YAKRUT VIKARAS

ABSTRACT
Even though liver is considered to be an important organ from the point of modern science its Ayurvedic similitude organ yakrut has very few references in our classical textbooks that too mentioned in a very scattered manner. Most of the descriptions related to yakrut are mentioned in certain diseases which are pertaining to raktavaha srotodushti. In this article brief anatomical and physiological aspects of yakrut along with the clinical evaluation of its pathological conditions are discussed. It’s the need of an hour for us in this advanced era of Ayurveda to bring together all the references related to yakrut vikaras and study them accordingly from the pathological point of view. Many disorders like yakrutodara which includes Chyuta and Achyuta yakrutvruddhi, different varieties of Kamala, Haleemaka, Kumbha kamala, Pittaja pandu and Raktapitta are dealt with their possible modern correlations. Role of ranjaka pitta, rakta dhatvagni, amla pitta and various dhamanis arising from the yakrut are also highlighted in the manifestation of yakrut vikaras.
