CONCEPTUAL STUDY OF JWARAGHNA ARKA WSR TO ARKA PRAKASH

ABSTRACT

Ayurvedic medicinal system is serving to mankind since thousands of years. This way it is a time-tested science and is continuing its development and becoming more prosperous. Ayurvedic treatment is known for its expertise in utilizing a variety of drug delivery methods. Classical Ayurvedic texts mention Kalpana's such as Kwath (Decoction), Swarasa (Juice), Churna (Powder), medicated oils and ghee, Asavarishta (drugs containing self-generated alcohol), and several other formulations. The essence behind these Kalpana’s is the “Sanskara” i.e process which causes transformation of compounds and ultimately elavates their bio-availability and efficacy. This transformation mainly occurs due to Agni (Heat) and also by Kaal (Time), Patra (Instrument), Vidhi (Methdology) followed for that formulation. Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana is a branch which deals with these drug preparation methods. Arka Kalpana has a unique
identity in these various formulations due to its easy preparation method, efficacy, shelf life, dosage, palatability and many such features. In Arka Prakash text special emphasis is given on Arka Kalpana. This study was conducted to explore dimensions and increase awareness about arka Kalpana. As Jwara is considered as root cause for all diseases Jwaraghna Arka’s (i.e. having antipyretic action) are listed and discussed in this article. Study concluded as 29 single herbal drugs are termed as Jwaraghana (out of 196), 2 mixed herbal drug combination (Mishraka Gana) out of 21 and 7 Jwaraghna Yoga (Formulations)were observed in Arka Prakasha. Also other findings such as clinical angles, pharmaceutical aspects about Arka’s are discussed in detail in this article.
