Abstract

COMPARATIVE EFFECTIVENESS OF STATINS AND OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS IN MODULATING TRIGLYCERIDE LEVELS AND CARDIOVASCULAR RISK IN TYPE 2 DIABETES PATIENTS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW AND META-ANALYSIS

Shivam Nilesh Kumar Patel*

ABSTRACT

Background: Type 2 diabetes accounts for 4.7 million cases in the UK, and increased levels of triglyceride is one of the major causes that lead to the increase in type 2 diabetes. Due to both the financial and health burden that comes with type 2 diabetes, it is worthwhile to find the best medication to modify the levels of glycerides in diabetic patients as well as the reduction of cardiovascular outcomes. Methods: 20 studies were identified for the analysis of the impact of statins and ω−3 fatty acids on both triglycerides and cardiovascular outcomes. Two sample mean comparison model used to assessed triglyceride level and two-armed proportion model used to assessed cardiovascular outcomes in population Data. Random impact model was used to quantify heterogeneity and I2 statistics. Results: There was enough evidence to show that both statins and ω−3 fatty acids, reduce Background: Type 2 diabetes accounts for 4.7 million cases in the UK, and increased levels of triglyceride is one of the major causes that lead to the increase in type 2 diabetes.
