ABSTRACT
Metformin, a biguanide and sitagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitor, are used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This combination improves blood glucose levels in adults when taken along with proper diet and regular exercise. For the analysis of formulations containing metformin hydrochloride and sitagliptin phosphate in combination, diverse techniques have been employed, including potentiometry, spectrophotometry, capillary electrophoresis (CE), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC--MS), and high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC). In the present review, the published analytical methods reported for the determination of metformin hydrochloride and sitagliptin phosphate in biological samples and pharmaceutical formulations have been gathered and outlined.
Keywords: Metformin, Sitagliptin, simultaneous estimation, analytical method, method development, validation.
