Samee Mohammed*, Sindhu Kommareddy, Jyothirmayee Vattem

ABSTRACT

Diabetes is a chronic disease condition that requires close collaboration between patients and a multidisciplinary team. Pharmacists with their knowledge of pharmacotherapy and accessibility to the community can educate and counsel the patient regarding disease, medication, and disease management and provide motivation to maintain health. This randomized control trial evaluated the impact of pharmacist intervention in the management of type 2 diabetes in a tertiary care teaching hospital in Hyderabad. A total of 72 patients were enrolled in the study and were randomly allocated to control and intervention groups. The control group received standard care while the intervention group received educational material, pharmacist counseling, and reinforcement. At the end of the study period, there is a significant decrease in both HbA1c value and Fasting blood glucose Diabetes is a chronic disease condition that requires close collaboration between patients and a multidisciplinary team.
