ABSTRACT
The technology advancements and the scientists in the field of pharmaceutical research and development are equipped for the expansion of the oral drug delivery system. As a portable drug delivery method, medicated chewing gum has cumulative approval in the pharmaceutical and clinical domains. Numerous researchers are interested in oral drug delivery systems due to their easy administration in the body, practical distribution, therapeutic response, and enhanced immunological activity. Its primary components are the gum core, which is made up of an insoluble gum base, sweeteners, softeners, antioxidants, binding agents, emulsifiers, plasticizers, and flavoring agents. There are many formulations in the market for treating inflammation, preventing dental cavities, and providing vitamin and mineral supplements. This review details introduction, classification, formulation, features, composition, characterization, upcoming trends, and safety aspects of the medicated chewing gum in many sectors to
manage and treat the disease through prolonged release of active components are the main theme of the study. Finally, when it comes to local medicine administration to the oral cavity, medicated chewing gum might eventually overtake other delivery methods as the preferred option.
