ABSTRACT
Background: Gestational hypertension is the most common medical problem and remains an important cause of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality and is implicated in 10-15% of maternal deaths worldwide. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of GH and monitor the prescription pattern of antihypertensive drugs in pregnancy. Materials and Methods: A prospective study was conducted on Gestational Hypertension for six months in the IP Dept. of OBG in a Govt. tertiary care teaching hospital in North Kerala. Results: A total of 1612 pregnant women were screened, and 120 were included in the category of gestational hypertension. The overall prevalence of GH in our study population was found to be 7.4%. A majority of the patients, 80.4% were on monotherapy and 19.6% were on combination therapy. Nifedipine was the commonest prescribeantihypertensive as monotherapy (52.33%). Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between BMI and gestational age at which BP was detected, LDH and systolic BP, LDH and platelet count, LDH and weight of the child, BP and LDH, BP and weight of the child, uric acid and LDH, uric acid and age of the pregnant women, uric acid and Sr.creatinine, uric acid and weight of the child, wt of the child and gestational age at which BP was detected, systolic BP and weight of the child. The study concluded that those parameters have a significant correlation with GH and should be monitored closely for better maternal care.
Keywords: weight of the child. The study concluded that those parameters have a significant correlation with GH and should be monitored closely for better maternal care.
