PHYSICOCHEMICAL, PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS AND REVIEW OF OPD MEDICINE OF BALASANJEEVI MAATHIRAI IN CHILDREN

ABSTRACT
Siddha medicine, is well known for traditional healing practices among public. Kuzhanthai maruthuvam is one of the important part of Siddha system which has many areas which are unexplored. There are multiple references available in pertinent Siddha literatures for the same formulation. In this study, we have chosen the one mentioned in Bhaarathathin Siddha Marunthugal Seimarunthu kurippunool – Part I authorized for variety of medicines in hospital practice. The word Baala means Child and Sanjeevi means elixir. As the name suggests, the medicine has both curative and prophylactic actions. It is a combination of herbals, salt and a mercurial compound. As the medicinal preparation addresses the pediatric ailments, the physician must be more careful about the dosing also. The preparation has multifaceted actions when administered with different adjuvants. So, according to the adjuvants, the same medicine can be prescribed for awide range of infections and infestations. The present paper aims to study the Physicochemical, Phytochemical studies and review of the therapeutic uses thereby establishing the screening, safety and efficacy of the available preparation in clinical practice among pediatric age group.
