CARALLUMA PENICILLATA (DEFLERS) N.E.BR. (ASCLEPIADACEAE): A MINI REVIEW ON ITS TRADITIONAL USES, PHYTOCHEMICAL COMPOSITIONS, AND PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

ABSTRACT
Caralluma penicillata (Deflers) N.E.Br. and other species within its genus have been extensively researched for their potential anti-inflammatory properties, hypoglycemic effects, and ability to assist in weight reduction. These studies have shown promising outcomes in the treatment of various conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, paralysis, stomach disorders, abdominal pain, migraine, fever, wound healing, and cardiac issues. In December 2023, a thorough search was conducted in the databases PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar using the keywords "Caralluma" and/or "penicillata" in combination with "pharmacological effects," "traditional uses," and "phytochemical profile." This comprehensive review focuses on providing a detailed profile of Caralluma penicillata, highlighting its valuable phytoconstituents, pharmacological properties, andtherapeutic potential.
