ABSTRACT
Antimicrobial agents’ the word that has tremendous importance in healthcare system today. The primary factor in lowering the worldwide burden of infectious illnesses is the use of antimicrobial drugs. But since there are fewer or often no effective antimicrobial medicines available for the illness caused by pathogenic bacteria, the growth and spread of multidrug resistant (MDR) strains in pathogenic bacteria have become a serious concern to public health. To overcome this issue the focus should be shifted to traditional system of medicine. The traditional system of medicine like Ayurveda has the potential to overcome this situation of multidrug resistance. There are many formulations in Ayurveda that can be used as antimicrobial agents, for this the antimicrobial activity of the formulations needed to be proved. Durvadi Taila is one of the formulations which is mentioned in Vranashotha Chikitsa by Acharya Chakrapani in Chakradatta book and Bhaishajya Ratnavali Vranashotha Adhyay. In this article the in vitro antimicrobial activity of Durvadi Taila for Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa is proved using agar well diffusion method.
