RECENT THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES IN TREATMENT OF CONJUNCTIVITIS

ABSTRACT
Conjunctivitis, or infection of the conjunctiva, the delicate membrane protecting the inside of the eyelids and the white part of the eye. It is a condition marked by redness, discharge from the eyes, a burning or stinging feeling, swelling, weeping, and blurred vision. Conjunctivitis is the outcome of an Adenovirus infection. In contrast Since staphylococcus and streptococcus are skin-resident bacteria and they tend to trigger bacterial conjunctivitis. Chlamydia or gonorrhea infections are less prevalent to cause conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis comes in many different forms as allergic conjunctivitis, bacterial conjunctivitis, viral conjunctivitis, giant papillary conjunctivitis, neonatal conjunctivitis and so on. Diagnosis of such disease by the medical professional is essential which includes physical examination, eye testing, allergic test and some of the laboratory test like PCR. Usually, conjunctivitis resolves on its own by itself but sometimes it needs a proper treatment. Topical anti-histamines, eye drops, ointment, antibiotics, immunomodulatory drugs, steroid-sparing therapies, gene and cell-based therapies, etc. are all used to treat the condition Good hygienic routine, the right medication, and a correct diagnosis are all necessary for the efficient management of this condition.
