REVIEW ON THE PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF MIMUSOPS ELENGI

ABSTRACT
This article highlights the importance of the plant species Mimusops elengi Linn. It is commonly called ‘BAKUL’ belonging to the Sapotaceae family plant species which is native to India. Mimusops elengi is a widely distributed tree species in tropical regions used for centuries in traditional medicine due to its numerous therapeutic properties. Various phytochemicals have been extracted from several extracts from various parts of the plant. The analysis detected various classes of compounds including alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds, terpenoids, and glucosides. All parts of this plant, including the leaves, roots, fruits, seeds, bark, and flowers, have historically been used to treat a variety of illnesses. The leaves contained a significant concentration of alkaloids. Particularly elengioside which has demonstrated potential anti-inflammation and analgesic properties. These compounds may contribute to the plant's traditional use for treating various ailments, including skin disorders and respiratory issues. The present review has been made to explore the phytochemical and pharmacological potential of mimusops elengi.
