Dr. Sangita Devi, Dr. Saurabh Yadav and Dr. Ajay Pratap Chauhan*

ABSTRACT

Madhumeha is a Vataja Vyadhi. The main causative factor is said to be sedentary lifestyle and food habits. In modern science, it can be correlated with Diabetes Mellitus (DM) which is a metabolic disorder occuring due to improper utilization of glucose, which causes increased blood glucose and generalised weakness. In Ayurveda it can be managed with excerise, diet and internal medication. In Madhumeha diet play a important role in controlling the blood sugar level and by following specific dietic pattern disease can be managed accordingly. In Ayurveda pathya and Apathya plays an important role to achieve good health and is described as a half treatment. Pathya is the one which keeps the person healthy, maintains normal bodyfunctions leads to proper functioning of the organs, nourishes the mind and intellect, prevents diseases and at the same time corrects the irregularities that may occur in the body. Thus, everyone should refrain from Apathya and follow Pathya (wholesome to body) as prevention is better then cure.
