ABSTRACT
For millennia, bone disease has been effectively treated with Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) in clinical settings. Compared to chemically manufactured medications, they are more appropriate for long-term usage, less expensive, and have less adverse effects. The Chinese herbal formula that the CHMs recommend is a safe alternative medication for conditions affecting the bones, such osteoporosis. Published articles were searched using Science Direct and Google Scholar. CHM, osteoporosis, Chinese herbal formula, traditional Chinese medicine, one herb, several herbs, and bone health were the input keywords. Only CHMs (single herb and formula) with a high citation count were preserved; those with insufficient proof and evidence in the literature were eliminated. In order to demonstrate the use and probable mechanism of single herb and multi-herb formulas in treating common bone-related disorders such inflammation, fracture, osteopenia, and osteoporosis, a brief review was summarised. Reliable pharmacological and toxicological procedures must be used to verify and ensure the safety and efficacy of all these CHMs, including prescriptions with single-herb and multi-component formulas. Much more work is required to investigate the mechanism, safety assessment, and standardisation of herb formulas as well as to verify the compatibility of these plants, which together compose one document to showcase the efficiency of herbal bioactives.
