ABSTRACT
Bioassay’s are among the most common methods to determine the potential of drug as agonist or antagonist by ex-vivo investigation. At present time there is a huge need medicines to cure the diseases that are continuously increasing in an ascending manner. As the time moves out number of new diseases including microbial infections, contaminated disease, pathogenic disease, presents harmful events in human. The new drug discovery process is moving continuously to discover new molecules for the benefit of human. The major task that every researcher face is to test those new entities to determine their therapeutic potential on underlying condition. Bioassay used to be a widespread procedure for standardizing any chemical entity, it is a significant stage in the drug development process since it can detect the effect of any natural or synthetic source of unknown or knowncompounds without altering the entire system by the logic of sacrificing the animal for piece of tissue. As a result, it is a way for estimating a material's efficacy and potency on a living system by using isolated tissue preparation from various organs of experimental animals like rat, guinea pig, rabbit, chicken etc. In this review we discuss about those various bioassay methods like drug response curve (DRC), bracketing bioassay, matching bioassay, interpolation bioassay, multiple point bioassay and PA2 value etc. which are used to evaluate the activities of drug on isolated ileum preparations of animals.
Keywords: Bioassay, experimental pharmacology, isolated tissue preparation, ex vivo, DRC curve.
