ABSTRACT
The Hindu Sanatan tradition encompasses sixteen Sanskaras, or rites, that are performed during the course of a human being's life. These Sanskaras are deeply rooted in the belief in rebirth and the purification of the soul through spiritual, physical, and celestial realms. Each Sanskar is meticulously designed to guide an individual from birth to death, shaping their physical, mental, and spiritual development. The Sanskaras begin with Garbhadhaan, a ritual performed for the conception of a noble and virtuous child, and continue through various stages of life, including Punsavan for the fetus's development, Jatkarma for the newborn's protection, and Vidyarambh for the initiation into formal education. Each Sanskar is accompanied by the chanting of Vedic mantras, adding a spiritual dimension to the physical rituals. The Sanskaras play a vital role in purifying the soul and promoting virtues such as righteousness, knowledge, and detachment. They are seen as essential rules for human beings, with the observance of each Sanskar considered mandatory. The performance of these Sanskaras is believed to cleanse individuals of impurities carried from previous births and lives, ultimately leading to Moksha-Mukti, liberation from the cycle of birth and death. In conclusion, Sanskaras in the Hindu tradition are not just rituals but a divine journey of purification and growth. They instill noble qualities, prepare individuals for their responsibilities in society, and guide them towards a fulfilling and meaningful life.
