CHROMATOGRAPHIC PROFILING OF PATOLA PANCHANGA (TRICHOSANTHES DIOICA ROXB. WHOLE PLANT)

ABSTRACT
Patola (Trichosanthes dioica Roxb.) is a well- known Ayurveda herb having multidimensional applicability owing to its pharmacodynamics and varied chemical constituents. It is being indicated in Jvara, Kushtha, Kandu, Amlapitta, Daha, Indralupta, Medoroga in the classics and proved as anti-diabetic, hepato-protective, cholesterol lowering, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-oxidant, wound- healing in modern researches. Apart from two main types T. dioica and T. cucumerina, there are numerous other species available in different parts of India. Thereby, the requirement for chromatographic profiling of the plant. Also, primarily the leaf is considered as the part used, due to which research work has been focussed on leaf only. But, whole plant is equally beneficial and used for various purposes by the clinicians. Hence, the present studypresents a novel concept of chromatographic profiling of Patola whole plant, aiming at providing an identification tool which will help in differentiating it from allied species as well as detect intra-species adulteration.
