ABSTRACT
Gastric ulcer is a disease characterized by injury due to erosion of the gastric mucosal layer due to the influence of increased levels of gastric acid and the secreted pepsin enzyme. One of the herbal medicines owned by Indonesia and used empirically for gastric ulcer therapy is ruku-ruku (Ocimum tenuiflorum L) leaf. This study was conducted to determine the effectiveness and effective dose of ruku-ruku leaf extract against gastric ulcers induced on rats with absolute alcohol 1ml/200 g bw (body weight), on the evaluation parameters of ulcer index and gastric fluid pH. This study used 25 rats and were divided into 5 groups: negative control (K-) was only given 1 ml/200 g bw of aquadest, positive control (K+) was only induced by absolute ethanol 1 ml/200 g bw, dose 200 mg/kg bw (D1), a dose 400 mg/kg bw (D2) and a dose 800 mg/kg bw (D3). From the results of the analysis using one-way ANOVA, it was found that all doses of ruku-ruku leaf extract were effective in curing gastric ulcers as indicated by a decrease in the ulcer index value, and can be concluded that a dose of 200 mg/kg bw showed greater anti-ulcer activity than other groups.
