A REVIEW OF LITERATURE ON THE ROLE OF ASCHYOTANA IN NETRA ROGAS

ABSTRACT
In spite of remarkable progress and advances in the field of modern ophthalmology the effective control is still a challenge. There is a great need of an ocular procedure for prevention and treatment of eye diseases with none or minimum amount of side effects. Acharya Sushrut has mentioned 76 eye diseases out of which treatable diseases are treated with systemic as well as local treatment. Kriyakalpa is one of the local treatments. Various therapeutic procedures which are formulated with different drugs and different routes of drug administration according to Dosha, Satmya, and Kal have been explained to avoid the diseased conditions. Aschyotana is one of these local therapeutic procedures. In this era, due to altered life styles and occupational hazards, it becomes essential to research those principles and practices of Ayurvedic ophthalmology to preserve the vision.
