Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF LARGE-SIZE CHOLELITHIASIS WITH AYURVEDIC INTERVENTION- A CASE REPORT

Dr. Sreeni T. V. and Haris M. S.*

ABSTRACT

Background: The presence of stones in the gallbladder is referred to as cholelithiasis. The stones are formed when the concentrations of various constituents in the gall bladder are not in the desired proportions. Several diseases arise in the gall bladder and one of them is gall stones i.e., cholelithiasis. The prevalence of gallstone disease is more common within Western society. In India, it's more common in women in the north, north-east, and east as compared to other zones. Surgery (cholecystectomy or gall bladder removal) is the most common form of treatment for large-size cholelithiasis (gallstones). However, the fact that surgically removing gallstones requires the removal of an entire organ has led to a growing interest in non-surgical treatments for gallstones. Besides alleviating symptoms, treatment for gallstones is necessary to avoid a progression that can result in severe conditions such as acute cholecystitis. But so far as the medical management of cholelithiasis is concerned, it is not up to the mark in the modern healing system. Case report: a 44-year-old male patient came in opd with complaints of intermittent epigastric pain associated with vomiting. and with ultrasonography report which was suggestive of cholelithiasis of 10 mm size. Have a history of multiple episodes of hospital admission for the same and he was managed conservatively for the same and was discharged by suggesting surgery Conclusion: the patient was diagnosed as Pittashmari and treated with ayurvedic medicine with the help of ayurvedic treatment protocol. Within 45 days of treatment, founded large stone was reduced to 5 mm in size and the patient became asymptomatic. With further medication, the stone gradually reduced to tiny granules.

Keywords: Cholelithiasis, Gallbladder stone, Pithashmari.
