MICROBIAL CONTAMINATION IN THE COSMETICS AND TOOLS USED IN WOMENS’ BEAUTY SALONS IN AL-KHUMS, LIBYA

ABSTRACT
Salons can cause the spread of viral, fungal, and bacterial infections. Cosmetic and personal care products are used in huge quantities throughout the world. The objective of this study is to identify the different microbes present in cosmetics and tools used in beauty salons in Al-Khums city, Libya. In this study, 90 samples were collected randomly from of the beauty salons (Eyeliner, Ppowder sponge, Mascara, Lipstick, Hair comb and Forceps). The results showed that the contamination percentage in the samples are more. Through this study were able to detect the presence of some bacterial species, including, Staphylococcus aureus (23.3%), Streptococcus (10%), Bacillus (10%), Escherichia coli (5.5%), etc. These contaminations can be reduced or nullified by using the sterile products and use the sterilized tools for the customers.
