PHARMACOLOGICALLY ACTIVE ANTI-DIABETIC DRUGS IN UNANI SYSTEM OF MEDICINE: AN OVERVIEW

ABSTRACT
Diabetes has long been a major source of concern for physicians and researchers. It is a long-term glucose metabolism disorder with serious clinical consequences. Diabetes consequences include diabetic retinopathy, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic neuropathy, stroke, ischemic heart disease, and peripheral vascular disease. Diabetes is a severe public health trouble because to its high morbidity and mortality rates, lower life expectancy, and financial and other consequences. Various medicinal herbs with anti-diabetic properties have been employed in the Unani system of medicine for a long time. There is the tremendous scope of Unani single and compound formulations in the comprehensive management of diabetes particularly Type-2 diabetes; it can also be utilized as an adjuvant with the conventional drug due to its diverse and related beneficial pharmacological activity in diabetes.
