A SCIENTIFIC INQUIRY INTO SELECTION OF INGREDIENTS OF A TRADITIONAL FORMULATION FOR HAEMORRHOIDS AND THEIR MODERN SIGNIFICANCE

ABSTRACT
Haemorrhoids are prevalent gastrointestinal ailment often associated with various therapeutic options, some of which often pose complications. Nowadays, researchers are increasingly exploring and reporting traditional medicines as potential resources for the development of novel drugs for various complications. This study presents an evidence-based exploration of ingredients of a traditional formulation being used for treating hemorrhoids in the Jind district of Haryana. Formulation and its ingredients were documented as a part of study. Following this, a thorough investigation across scientific databases was done to validate the scientific basis for selecting ingredients in the formulation. Noteworthy ingredients include Piper longum, Emblica officinalis, Terminalia bellerica and Terminalia chebula. The study identifies 17 herbs from 10 different plant families and 4 other ingredients. This research tries to bridge the gap between traditional medicinal practices and modern therapeutics, and offers valuable foundation for the potential integration of these herbal formulations into modern therapeutic approaches for hemorrhoids.
